South Sudan to uphold ties with Israel despite pressure

South Sudan will uphold diplomatic relations with Israel despite Palestinian pressure, South Sudanese President Salva Kiir told MK Danny Danon (Likud) on Monday. Kiir said that Hamas leaders Khaled Mashaal and Ismail Haniyeh told him that, as an Arab state, he should cut ties with Israel.
"I told them that I see Israeli embassies in Jordan and Egypt, and South Sudan is not an Arab state," Kiir explained to Danon, who flew to the world's youngest country on a visit intended to strengthen diplomatic ties and discuss refugees.
Kiir also agreed to Danon's request that the future South Sudanese embassy to Israel be built in Jerusalem, and said he would visit Israel.
The new African country's Deputy Parliament Speaker Daniel Akot said that "Israel is like a big brother to South Sudan," and recounted that Israeli flags were waved at the state's declaration of independence, 59 days ago.

Rebels ask leader of UK’s Libyan Jews to run for office

The day after the fall of Tripoli to the rebels, the leader of a Libyan-Jewish Diaspora group said he was offered by the emerging ruling power to run for office in free elections in that country.
Raphael Luzon, the head of Jews of Libya UK, told The Jerusalem Post on Monday that opposition leader Mustafa Abdul Jalilrecently invited him to return to his country of birth and participate in the political discourse.
"A week ago I received an [invitation] from the chief of the rebels," he said referring to Abdul Jalil, a former justice minister and current chairman of the rebel council in Benghazi.
"They proposed for me to take part in one of the parties because they would like it to be open to all people including women and Jews."
Libya needs any help it can get from the international community, including from Israel, a spokesman for the opposition to Muammar Gadhafi's regime told Haaretz Tuesday by phone from London.
When asked what sort of assistance Libya required, Ahmad Shabani, the founder of Libya's Democratic Party, said: "We are asking Israel to use its influence in the international community to end the tyrannical regime of Gadhafi and his family."
No truth to report of Israeli evacuations before Amman bombs

There is no truth to reports that Israelis staying at the Radisson SAS hotel in Amman on Wednesday were evacuated by Jordanian security forces before the bombing that took place there.
The Israelis were escorted back to Israel by Jordanian security personnel only after the attacks had taken place, contrary to earlier reports [see initial reports, below].
With the most aggressively racist government ever in power, the Israeli occupation authorities have been prosecuting and imprisoning Palestinian children at will, mostly on bogus charges such as throwing stones at Israeli military vehicles and endangering the security and safety of the Israeli occupation forces in the [occupied] West Bank.
According to the Israeli human rights group B'tselem, nearly 100 percent of Palestinian children charged with stone-throwing are convicted due to overwhelming pressure to plea bargain. Only one Palestinian minor out of 853 charged with stone-throwing between 2005 and 2010 was acquitted.
[NOTE: The phrase 'Israeli human rights group' is a contradiction in terms, since the very existence of the self-proclaimed 'Jewish state' has been founded on the total abrogation of Palestinian human rights from the very outset -- 800]

Israel to build 336 new West Bank settlement homes

[OCCUPIED] JERUSALEM -- Israel is to issue tenders for 336 new homes in two West Bank settlements, a spokesman for the Israeli ministry of construction and housing told AFP on Monday.
"We will very shortly issue tenders for the construction of 336 houses for Jews in Judea and Samaria," Ariel Rosenberg said, using the biblical term for the [Palestinian] West Bank.
